The Thirty Thousand Islands region is one of the great cruising grounds of the world. The islands create the world’s largest freshwater archipelago.
Within its boundaries cruisers can enjoy the facilities of the Georgian Bay Islands National Park located close to Midland and Penetanguishene.
Of the park’s 59 islands, Beausoleil Island is the largest. Here the hardy evergreens of the northern Canadian Shield meet the deciduous hardwood forest of the southern lowlands. The ancient granite shoreline, the windswept pines, the sparkling waters and abundant wildlife make this an unforgettable journey.

Many cruisers visit beautiful Beausoleil Island and enjoy miles of hiking trails. On the southern end the trails take you through verdant, lowland forests. On the northern end the trails lead through Canadian Shield-like bedrock and wetlands fertile with amphibians, turtles and snakes including the Eastern Massassauga Rattlesnake so wear boots when walking in the bush.
