Penetang (or “P’tang” as the locals refer to it) originated as a British Naval and military establishment that attracted French Canadian fur traders and voyagers, whose descendants stayed on as farmers. The historic Discovery Harbour (705-549-8064) offers an enchanting view of this past along with two wooden schooners that you can board, the 79-foot Bee and the 125-foot Tecumseh.
A Visitor Center, museum, restaurants and shopping are near the Historic Port of Penetanguishene (pronounced “penetangwisheen”).
