The Long and Winding Road

Old Baldy, NC’s oldest standing lighthouse, will greet you upon your arrival in the harbor at Bald Head Island. Old Baldy’s 108 steps offer an incomparable view of the island. Or, if you prefer, stroll 14 miles of pristine beaches, play a few rounds of seaside golf, or paddle the serpentine tidal creek on Bald Head Island. Another option is to explore the numerous nature paths winding through the beaches, marshes and maritime forests of the 6-acre island. (Golf carts and bikes are the only modes of transportation, as cars are not allowed on the island.) Go on your own wildlife safari in search of dolphins, loggerhead turtles, alligators, deer and foxes. There is not one but two locations on the island for ice cream cones, cups and shakes, as well as specialty coffee drinks: Sandpiper Ice Cream and Coffee and the Maritime Market Café.
