FL Inlet Caution: Sebastian
- Date Reported: Jun 2, 2022
- Reporter: Jani Parker
- Source: Waterway Guide Staff
- Description:
Sea Buoy: No sea buoy. Steer to waypoint N 27 51.675'/W 80 26.500', which will place you directly east of
the inlet.
Overview: This is the only charted inlet between Cape Canaveral and Fort Pierce and is a local knowledge, fair-weather inlet used largely by smaller recreational fishing boats. Crossed by a fixed bridge (A1A) with 37-foot vertical clearance.
Navigation: If you must enter, do so only from the east using the waypoint; there is an unmarked shoal blocking any approach from the south. From the waypoint, proceed due east keeping to the center of the jetties. There are no buoys and only a light at the end of the north jetty. A 3,000-foot-long by 100-foot-wide and 9-foot-deep channel provides access to the ocean, but as with all ocean inlets, a cautious approach is warranted, as shoaling is ever present and continuous.
Webcam: For a live view of the inlet, visit sebastianinletcam.com.
Cautions & Hazards: Swift cross currents and the resulting shifting channel make navigation difficult without up-to-date local information. The currents in this area can also affect travel on the ICW.
ICW Connection: The inlet is 2 nm from ICW Mile 935 (across the Indian River) over an area of 5- to 6-foot depths following privately maintained aids. - Lat / Lon: N 27° 51.540' / W 080° 26.987'
