Guard Lock, East

  • Mile Marker: 259.95
  • Lat / Lon: N 43° 07.012' / W 077° 38.002'
  • Number of Chambers: One
  • Schedule: The hours of operation for the 2025 season are as follows:

Standard hours of operation are 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily until November 3, 2025.

The New York State Canal Corporation announced that, conditions permitting, all portions of the New York State Canal system are scheduled to open on Friday, May 16, 2025.

This year marks the 201st consecutive season of navigation along New York's Canals and the 200th anniversary of the original Erie Canal's completion and opening on October 26, 1825.

There are no tolls or fees for recreational use of the Canal system this year. Additional information about this year's season, including standard hours of operation and more details on the Canal Corporation's continued collaboration with the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to mitigate aquatic invasive species, will be issued in subsequent Notices to Mariners.

As part of the Erie Canal's Bicentennial commemoration, the Canal Corporation is extending this year's navigation season. The Canal system will remain open for both recreational and commercial vessels until Monday, November 3, 2025, at 6:00 pm. This year's extended navigation season is being offered to accommodate vessels traveling to and from New York City with the Buffalo Maritime Center's replica Erie Canal Boat Seneca Chief in late October.

Hours of operation between Wednesday, October 15, 2025, and Monday, November 3, 2025, will be announced in subsequent Notices to Mariners and will be subject to change based on availability of seasonal personnel, including roving lock and lift bridge operators.
