Remote Swans Island lies directly in the path of the Eggemoggin Reach southwest of Mount Desert Island. A year-round ferry serves the year-round population of about 325 from Bass Harbor. There are three villages: Atlantic in Mackerel Cove on the north coast and Swans Island and Minturn in Burnt Coat Harbor to the south.
