Betty, I, and the boat are doing what cruisers do – sitting in Fulton Harbor waiting on weather. The wind has been south at 15-20+ with small craft advisories since last Saturday.
We got here Saturday after a rather rough crossing of Matagorda Bay – we now know where a few previously undiscovered leaks are. We had read that Matagorda Bay could be rough and that "could be" is not in doubt. The final destination on this cruise is the turning basin in the Port of Brownsville, Texas; GIWW mile 682 WHL. When we get there we will be able to say we have done the coast, top of Maine to bottom of Texas.
Below is a photo from the GIWW – when you cruise this waterway, you learn to drive with barges and speak "tow talk." This is a seriously commercial waterway and the Eagle Ford Shale gas and oil play in South Texas is leading to an increase in barge traffic.
