Lock walls are deteriorating and need repair. Use extra fenders. Tie up east (preferred) or west of lock on south wall. Canal park at lock. In the park is the Aldrich Change Bridge, which allowed for mules to transfer from one side of the canal to the other. The town of Palmyra is a 0.8-mile walk east with drug store, post office, bank (ATM), restaurants, and video store. A total of 1.4 miles east brings you to the main shopping area described at mile 234.5. From this lock west, there is a complete bicycle path all the way to Buffalo, NY (100 miles)
