Rose Island North
- Lat / Lon: N 25° 05.426' / W 077° 13.875'
- Depth: 8'-12'
- Tide: 2.0'-2.5'
- Description:
The north side of Rose Island is fringed with reef and coral heads facing a gorgeous beach, which makes it a favorite spot for local tour guides to bring their customers for a snorkeling experience.
There is only protection from the southeast through the south, but the holding is excellent. If there is even a hint of north wind, however, it is time to leave as the anchorage can transform from a swimming pool into a whirlpool within an hour. The other caution in this area is that local tour operators are known to feed sharks in the area to give their guests a show. Sharks have come to associate motors with food and you should not be surprised to see many sharks in the area.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
