Little Exuma Island - Goat Cay
- Location: Southern Exumas
- Lat / Lon: N 23° 24.210' / W 075° 30.990'
- Depth: 7'-10'
- Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
- Description:
The anchorage which is northwest of Goat Cay is only usable in calm conditions with winds having a southerly component.
In all other conditions the anchorage will vary from uncomfortable to dangerous with a nearly constant swell that sweeps in from Exuma Sound. For most boaters the only reason to use the anchorage at Goat Cay is to wait for a high slack tide to transit the Hog Cay Cut enroute to the Jumentos Cays. From the anchorage it is possible to assess the state of the tide and current as the end of Hog Cay Cut is visible. The holding is good if one takes the time to locate a bowl of sand, otherwise the bottom is hard.
DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
