Buckle Cut

  • Location: Berry Islands
  • Lat / Lon: N 25° 24.059' / W 077° 48.334'
  • Depth: 6'-8'
  • Tide: 2.5'-3.0'
  • Description:

Buckle Cut is tucked into a narrow cove between the SW end of Whale Cay and Bird Cay and it is the only anchorage on the ocean side of Whale Cay.

It is enough for 2 to 3 boats and there is good protection for winds from every direction except south, but there will almost always be a swell sweeping in from The Tongue of the Ocean, regardless of wind direction. The holding is good in clear sand, and it is not uncommon to find fishing boats anchored in the lee of Whale Cay for lunch.

DISCLAIMER: Before committing to an anchorage, you should confirm that the location is not governed by a regulation that may conflict with your plans. An increasing number of states and municipalities are enacting laws that define where and how long you may anchor.
