I came to Coinjock mostly to see if it was the great place everyone said it was. I was not impressed.

I was southbound with the annual boat migration in full swing. Coinjock was packed to the point that three boats (including mine) had to raft onto another boat. When I arrived the boat I was supposed to raft to was tied up and I was told to come in, but there no fenders set out on the side I had to tie to. When the dockhands realized that I was single-handing and only able to put two of my fenders out while navigating in the narrow, crowded channel, they scrambled to get others set out on the destination boat. It had a happy ending but was very stressful.

Even though I rafted, I had to pay full price for my stay. Considering that I had limited access to shore because I didn't want to be a nuisance to the owners of the boat I had to walk across to get there and back, I think the rate should have been reduced. The people in the boat I rafted to were strangers and were gracious about our situation, but I think they should have had a reduced rate, too.

The bathrooms are satisfactory. The showers in the ladies room do not include a changing area, however, and they are positioned right by the entrance. If you step outside the shower stall to dress and someone walks in, you're exposed to whoever is outside. Not ideal.

The restaurant was understaffed with a wait for a meal at 2 PM. Lots of tables needed clearing and, as another outdoor diner with restaurant experience pointed out, the servers would walk back into the kitchen empty handed when there were plenty of plates and other things to bring in. In other words, they lacked efficiency. The smaller prime rib was generously sized -- enough for lunch and two leftover meals. It was good but I've had better. My server was good. Everyone was friendly.

The best part of my stay, however, was sitting at a sort of bar outside for my meal. It faced the dock and we were entertained watching the dockhands assist and tie up very large boats so close together that the bow of one overhung the stern of the one before it. This must be what others are talking about when they complement the dockhands. I could have watched this show all day long.

Would I stay at Coinjock again? Probably not. I prefer the Dismal Canal route better anyway.

Non floating docks are newer with plenty of pedestals for power and water. Water is well water. The dock hands excel at what they do. They will put you close to the next boat but do it well. Dockside pump outs and fuel are available. Nice ships store with fast food, necessities, and of course t-shirts. Good food at the restaurant. Seems over priced for what you get but they are the only place around and I'm glad they're here.

We stopped along the ICW for the reputed prime rib and it did not disappoint. We were not waked overnight and got a great nights' sleep. The staff appeared a little overworked or overtired (we are traveling in September) with some sarcasm and quips for things like sitting in the wrong unmarked area and turning off our engines before the tie was looped. Silly things, in my opinion, but clearly small daily annoyances that are adding up for the staff.
Someone in reviews here says this is a good place to walk a dog. I would just caution that it is on a pretty busy road with no curb or walking area. We have two dogs and it was difficult to walk them too far.
I would recommend stopping if you need to relieve the miles, but it isn't a MUST DO.

Location, location, location. Personally I think over priced for dockage & power, price on par with resort marinas, but this is not one of those. No WiFi on the docks and well water to fill your tanks. But, when you're the only game in town…

On the plus side, dockhands are top notch, nice new ship store and good power.

Agree with other reviewers but they do stack you in tight. Our pulpit was over the swim platform of the boat ahead of us on our first night. The marina staff was friendly and helpful and the ship store was the best we've come across so far. Additionally, the staff was helpful in acquiring an engine mechanic for a minor job. And yes, the prime rib was very good, lightly seasoned and tender. There were other menu items that were equally good.

Great place, friendly staff, arrive on slack tide if possible, we did not and it can be quite tricky to get on the wall, no slips. Prime Rib was excellent, we asked to split between two of us with no issues. New well stocked Chandlery. Coinjock bought Midway Marina a few years back and are working on upgrades but the entire company has now been sold.

We stopped here in mid January 2023 on our way south to wait out some high winds. Our stay lasted a bit longer when we discovered an engine leak. Coinjock Marina hooked us up with Sound Decisions Marine Repair to help solve our problem.

Our stay was fantastic. Both the Coinjock and Marine Repair staff were very polite and helpful during our stay. The great food at their restaurant was an added bonus to our stay.

Great stopover. Ditto other comments - great prime rib, friendly staff, decent ship's store with tons of swag. Downside is it's in the middle of nowhere so you can't walk or bike to other services or supplies. Not well known but they offer small furnished cabins (4 bedrooms) at a low price. if you're waiting for Albemarle it's a chance to get off the boat and sleep shoreside.

A quaint stopover on our way south. We decided we had to stop here because of all the people raving about the prime rib. It lived up to the hype!
As far as the marina, it is just dock space not slips but the dockhands were wonderful and it was nice and peaceful.
I don't think I would stay here for anything but a stopover (to get the prime rib) because there is nothing around but I am glad we stopped.

This is a face dock with a good restaurant. Dockhands were helpful getting the boat tied up and didn't have to adjust once they were finished. Bathrooms were clean and functional, and the new dock house (more like a store) was well stocked, and had ice cream. Also a counter with a couple of beer taps to quench your thirst.
Restaurant was good, prime rib was cooked correctly, and the fried oysters & clam strips were also good.
We stayed 2 nights, but it's really meant to be a one night midway stop between Belhaven (or Alligator River if Albermarle is kicking up) and Norfolk, making it a one night stop for next time.
    Would definitely stop here again.

Our plans were to stay at Coinjock Marina for 2 nights. However, the weather was getting bad and, if we didn't leave on Friday, we would be stuck there for a week. There is nothing within walking distance and the nearest town is 8 miles away so we opted to only stay one night and push onto Norfolk. 1200' face dock was filled bow to stern all the way down. There is only this dock space - no individual slips. They had us in the first spot and our bow was about 4' from the end of the dock. Our power cord would not reach the pedestal but they quickly provided us an extension cord. Nice quiet night at the dock with little wake action. Restrooms/showers are clean. Friendly, helpful staff. My prime rib dinner at the Coinjock Restaurant was fabulous and well worth the stop.

Probablly the most popular stop along the entire AICW. Louie Davis, aka "Wild Thang" from his former dancing days runs an exceptionally operation but you always must make reservations in advance. The long dock fills up quickly. The restaurant is known for its Big Prime Rib which has to be ordered in advance. Loie is also a goldmine for resources on getting divers, repairs, and convenient to run to Home Depot and Walmart for supplies. Stayed here several times from June through November of 2021.

It's THE place to stop on the way to and from Albemarle Sound. There's easy access to fuel and a pump-out but the real attraction is the restaurant, we always have the prime rib. I wouldn't recommend topping off your water tanks due to the tannic in the well water lending a brownish hue to the water (we topped off once). The WiFi works and they have a limited laundry area.

Have your fenders hanging horizontally since you will be against pilings. The dockhands are excellent but they will pack you within a few feet of the boat ahead and behind you. If you trail a dinghy, you may be asked to tie it to the channel side of your boat. There's no courtesy car and there's nothing nearby.

Call him Sunday afternoon and he even answered the phone. Was at out boat Monday morning at 9:30 and had us on our way by 11:30. Had seafood risotto (not prime rib) and it was excellent. Interesting place, we were the first to arrive at the long dock. Only 1 boat at the other end. They tied us with out midship cleat at docks end so we stuck out past the dock. I know why they did this. By 1600 the entire 800' of dock was full of boats, with some doubled up . It was quiet in the AM, then was a busy marina by 1700. Dinner is the focus point at the restaruant. Staff was friendly and helpful. It is a must see, just to watch the activity.

We enjoyed our night at Coinjock after being away for almost 4 years. Not much has changed but we were advised to call ahead to book our dockage as it was a Saturday night and the place gets packed real fast. The restaurant added outside seating under a huge tent since we were there last but we enjoy eating at the bar where we always seem to meet new people. The Prime Rib 32 oz was my menu item of choice and I will be enjoying prime rib sandwiches for the next few days. We took on fuel as it was down at the $3 per gallon price - as always the staff is still as great as ever.

Friendly help tying up. We were on the south end of the dock. Pump out is plumbed near each pedestal, so they bring a cart to you boat. All the facilities are near the center of the long face dock. Showers and laundry are on the south side of the restaurant building. Best Wifi, is near the restaurant and store. We still had a weak signal at the very south end of the dock(had to be on deck). I think they have live music outdoors on weekend evenings, during the summer.

Make reservations for dinner, as the restaurant and bar are a popular local place. The prime rib was plated in a shallow saucer, in an au jus puddle. If you want the prime rib “dry”, ask for the su jus on the side. The prime was good, but it’s not a must have. The menu has a a big variety and can include local seafood. The waitstaff and a local both mentioned, that the daily chef specials can be excellent. If the bar is packed, the store actually serves draft beer. The first week of May 2021, they were setting up a large outdoor tent over the patio/deck area.

I was wrong about this marina. I only gave them 3 stars due to their treatment of me and my crew the last time I reviewed them. We had a great visit this year. The crew was polite and helpful, though squeezed into our space (all boats are bow to stern along the sea wall) it was well done and no risk of damage. Prices for fuel, food and dockage were very reasonable especially when you realize that they are the only marina in the vicinity. They now own the old marina across from them and have overflow go there. They have a boat that will pick up and bring people back that are tied up on the other side. On the East shore (the main facility) you can get fuel and a pump out from nearly all spaces.

The prime rib exceeded my every expectation. The only quibble I have is the bathroom on my side of the ICW was pretty dirty. I understand they just recently purchased the second marina, but it needs a facelift sooner rather than later. If given the choice, take a spot on the west side. We were not packed in line like the eastern side was. Overall, great staff, great meal, and. Great review.

It’s a rainy day so some of us are trying to do laundry. Only 2 washers and 2 dryers, no room to fold clothes and if you drop anything it falls on a filthy floor. They seriously need to put the laundry in a room with space to move.

Easy in and out with a pleasant staff to help you get set up when you dock. We came here for three primary reasons: 1) fill up water tanks; 2) update our smartphones via wifi; and 3) have a great prime rib dinner at the restaurant. Sorry to say we weren't able to accomplish our goals. First, the water tested at 700+ parts per million. EPA says anything over 500 is not potable. We usually have only put water in out tanks up to a reading of 300; 2) could never connect to the WIFI signal (we were at the end of the dock though); and 3) restaurant was OK but was expecting more given its reputation. It just did not live up to the hype.

Not sure what was going on in the dockmaster's life our one and only time there but we nearly drove off because he was so rude & unwelcoming. As we pulled the vessel to the dock he abruptly said, "Excuse me, what is your reason for coming here, what do you want?!" We said, "we'd like to get some food from the restaurant and a bulb from your marine store". Well, how long are you gonna be here?!" We told him "long enough to get burgers to go and a bulb for our nav light". He reluctantly said, “well, I guess that's okay, pull forward close to that other boat". Then rather tying springlines he promptly tied our bow line so tight we lost maneuverability and slammed into the post, and he walked off.
    Burgers were good, waitstaff nice.

Excellent marina but be prepared to be tightly packed in bow to stern and during busy times, you may be asked to let a boat tie up alongside. On the other hand, we had no problems. Our dinghy was under the bow of the boat behind us. On the other hand, we had no problems and the dockhands tied us off well. Of course, you have to try the famous rib steaks at the restaurant but be sure to make reservations in advance. There is nothing else nearby. The WiFi is fine. The dockhands tied us off well. This place is surreal. From nowhere all of a sudden mega yachts, prime rib. Overrated, but if your running the intracoastal you have to stop here , just so you can say you did!

We called ahead to tell them we needed fuel and a slip. He said to come in for fuel and he would figure out the accommodations while fueling. When coming into the dock, the dock hands were not helpful did a poor job tying it up in a strong wind. They handed me the fuel pump and were not seen again. After I bought $500 worth of diesel he told me they were full but he could hang me off the end of the dock. Given the wind and chop, this did not seem very secure. I understand the restaurant is ‘famous’ for their prime rib - be advised if you want it you must reserve it in advance. I realize that most praise this marina but I will never go back here there again unless I am desperate.

Stopped while delivering boat from Oriental to Portsmouth. We were literally 5 minutes ahead of major thunderstorm activity. They got us tied up, hooked up and fueled up quickly. We made it to the restaurant as the downpours started. Excellent as usual.

Really wonderful folks who run this place and great staff on the dock. They packed us in as Dismal Swamp is closed, but with just enough room to skip out the next morning. Great food at the restaurant. Dock is in really good shape

I love this place and the people who run it. They know how to handle boats of all sizes. Always being improved and updated. If you want something and they don't have it, you didn't need it.
Great great restaurant open year round.

The folks here are very friendly and helpful. Docks in great shape and easy to access. Bath/Shower cleanliness okay. No tidal range here.

Like everyone else says in the reviews, Coinjock is well managed, clean and squared away. From fishing boats to megayachts, everyone stops here. Call ahead, especially in the prime seasons. Strong currents in the channel so be prepared to ask for preferred tie-up.

One of my favorites. Owner Louie Davis aka "Wild Thing" from his Chippendale days keeps a tight rein on everything. Great restaurant (always call ahead and reserve the big prime rib), great crew and always ready to help out – but call and make a reservation. They fill up fast.
    Great fuel prices too.
