April 2021-After multiple attempts to hail them on the radio we had to call on the phone. We were advised to go to C dock. We followed their instructions to the T. The dock hands were all on B dock. Much confusion and no communication between the dock office and dock hands. We ran hard aground. Had to be towed off. Adding insult to injury an employee shouted to us ‘I knew you couldn’t get in here, there’s a sandbar!’ We were never asked if we were ok or if we were taking on water. Tow US pulled us off and over to Casper’s. After we were tied off one Casper’s employee said to the Tow Boat captain ‘ Another Dudley’s victim!’
When booking we gave them all our info. They assured me we could dock there. I sent them an email and a copy of the TOW US bill. Crickets. I would not recommend Dudley’s.

We have stopped here three times, the most recent was in Nov '18. Very friendly staff and the dockhands always meet us upon arrival. The shallows are well marked on the chart and yes, it takes extra attention to enter and exit. We had no problem, even in '18. As for pelican poo, it's a fishing marina in a fishing town. That comes with the territory. We could take up golf, but that's where the geese poop.

I ran aground in Dudleys fairway, following their instructions. I pulled up to the fuel pier, as directed. Dockhands came to help, but couldn't get the boat close to the dock. Another marina employee came out and said I was aground at the dock. The original dispatcher said I should move to C dock, where there is a foot more water. I tried to move to C dock, but ran aground in the fairway. Towboat US is coming to get the boat off now. If I could give this place a negative rating, I would.

    WG Editor Comment:
    Marina Management Response:

We cannot help that Florence filled in much of our docking area. Most boaters have been understanding with the circumstances, but depending on the tide there is not enough water. We have had extremely high tides, and also extremely low tides that have not followed any specific pattern. We have warned every boater that calls about the shallow depths, and it is up to them to tell us their correct draft. Many that have run aground have shorted their drafts just so we will take them. We are trying to do the best we can with these circumstances, but the entire ICW throughout NC is dealing with the same issues.

The docks are a little on the rough side but for a dollar a foot including water and electric I can’t complain. They have a courtesy car and there is an excellent Lowe’s supermarket and a NAPA just a few miles away. The staff is very helpful in getting you tided up and will assist you in casting off. I have been stopping here for the past 9 years.

If you want a cheap berth with a friendly staff, this is it. If you want clean facilities, then move on. Docks covered with bird excrement. You can get into Swansboro after a moderate walk. $35 for our 43' boat including power and water. No pumpout.
