While on board he reengineered and repaired an access door to the wheelhouse. Axson demonstrated a large degree of mechanical knowledge and skill in addition to squeezing us in between scheduled jobs. There is nothing in the way of a repair that I would not ask Axson to perform on my boat.

See my review at Lock 7, upbound is a joy ride and nylon lines will chew your gel coat like a hack saw so be prepared with something between the line and your gel.

What can you say about a lock with a 40' drop with concrete walls that are pocked and chipped with rebar sticking out. Be Careful and have plenty of fenders. Down-bound (Lake Erie-Ontario) is ok but up-bound is a thrill ride and there is only six more.

Lift is usually around 3' as it is a leveling lock and they ask you to hold the boat in the middle of the lock. There is a pleasure boat dock just north of the lock with floating docks and a wall just north of that for going to downtown Port Colborne and restaurants etc.

Great are, convenient, located on main street of a good sized city. Everything you want or need is close by including restaurants and all types of stores. Docks are good and staff is good. Previous review talked about lack of a West Marine in town, there are a number of local independent boat supply stores where you can get anything you need for your boat.

Spent 6 days here waiting for repairs to the guillotine door on the east end of the lock. While the situation was undesirable the Canal Staff could not have been more accommodating. They provided drinking water at no charge, removed black water at no charge, had a fuel operator contact us to check on our needs and were willing to provide rides to anywhere locally. Nice town, nice people. 5 stars to Lock 17 staff and management.
