Con: Expensive @$3/ft. Outer docks are too tall for stern-in boarding, but fingers are too short for bow-in. (Riverbank docks work for stern-in). Mainfloor restrooms need work.

Anchored here one night in Oct 2022. Found 10' of water toward the south bank right at the first bend off the Temm-Tom with a small sandy bank for pet landing. Shared the anchorage with 6-8 other boats with no crowding. slight current kept us all in line with bow anchors only. Beautiful sunset and stars Anchor was slightly fouled in logs at retrieval. Next time we will stick closer to the center of the channel (15').

For all its history and legend, Hoopies is just a dock made from a couple of barges. And small, tired ones at that. There are no services beyond power, limited water, and fuel.

That being said, the folks there are very helpful and Debbie provides an excellent briefing on current river conditions as far down as Paducah. And they provide a necessary last fuel stop downstream form Alton.

    But....

Southside is very exposed to lake waves when winds are from the W or NW. The manager graciously moved us and 3 others to empty seasonal slips at the Northside and Museum marinas (which they also manage) and gave us access to those facilities.

A nice stop before crossing Lake Oneida. Be prepared to be "off grid". Definitely stay east of the highway bridge to avoid wind/wave action from the lake. High wall works well for larger boats. Rings are well spaced. Good dog walking. Easy walk to dining/shopping. Can be a bit "buggy" at times.

Pro: Excellent fixed docks, with good water and power. Good fuel price. VERY helpful dock and boatyard staff. Grounds well maintained. Excellent marine store. Courtesy cars.

Con: No laundry. Limited bath/shower facilities. $12 per tank for a pumpout (even after a $900+ fuel purchase,. Sheesh)

Conclusion: Definitely worth a stop, especially if you need fuel or parts and repair assistance.

Pro: sheltered boat basin, excellent docks/power/water, great dock master is son of owner of Shady Harbor on the Hudson, acces to restaurants/casino

Con: ZERO amenities(and I mean NONE) no dock security, no access to shopping, privacy issues with adjoining condos,

Conclusion: Great stop for the casino and as a hurricane hole. Not good for much else.

Pro: Right on the city waterfront. Good water and power. Great restaurants, Maritime Museum, farmers markets, etc. Goof Uber/taxi service. Lots going on, especially on weekends

Con: Floating aluminum docks for larger boats are TERRIBLE. They are unsteady, noisy, often too hot for pet feet, and regularly covered with duck poop. Limited privacy from the waterfront promenade. One unisex restroom/shower for all transients. One good dock master out of three. Area can be noisy on weekends,

Conclusion: An OK choice if peace and quiet are not priorities. There are better, but less convenient choices in Kingston.

Pro: Modern floating docks, good water and power, Capt Keith is super helpful. Locals and transients mix well. The restaurant is very good. Good access to town. Price is right. Good dog walking.
Con: Shoreside services consist of one 3-room toilet/shower trailer and 2 trash barrels. Tidal current can be challenging at times. No breakwater. Docks get rolly in wind and wakes.

Conclusion: Worth a stop in good weather. Leave your ego below and let Capt Keith coach you thru entrance/exit at high current, He really knows his stuff. (He had us back into the entrance, bow to the current, and taught us to crab sideways into our slip. Wow)

Pros: Good docks, water, and power. Manager Steve. Good breakwater (a rarity on the Hudson). Often full of fellow Loopers. Price is right. OK access to town.
Cons: Almost no shoreside amenities. The pool in the photos goes with the condos, not the marina. No laundry.
Steve is SO helpful and accomodating you want to give more stars, but..........

      Marina Response:

Thank you for your kind words, Wade, we were happy to host you! In regard to the shoreside amenities, although we don't offer pool access, there is a beautiful public beach not far from the marina, which is great for swimming, fishing, and more than you can do at any pool! Also, as far as laundry, while we unfortunately do not have laundering services on site, we do have a dry cleaner/laundromat that offers free pickup and delivery several times a day. Additionally, we have a local coin operated laundromat if you prefer to do it yourself. We do however apologize for the confusion, and hope to make it more clear to fellow Loopers like yourself what we do have available.
      Best,

Inside of Lesner Bridge channel is shoaling to starboard. Favor port side of channel near Virginia Pilot docks and follow the marks. Channel meanders a bit. Tidal current can reach 4 kts.
