April 16 2024 Anchored here for the night . Three boats were here this evening. Room for more. Anchor set no issues came up fairly clean. Holding seemed good but we only had light winds. Almost no traffic passed us here. Typical open Marsh anchorage. Good Cell service and TV reception . Not to far to launch ramp if you have a dog.

4 15 2024 Nice clean facility. Courtesy car a real plus if you need to re-provision or hardware. No wake zone. Floating docks. Good instructions sending us picture of where our assigned slip is before we arrived which made docking straightforward no guessing. Nice touch to help docking. On the dock end where we are the WIFI is not reliable. Nice laundry room. Previous reviews are accurate.

4 14 2024 So convenient. Plenty of swing room and room for many. Current/ tides but holding was excellent. We came in from south at entrance high tide. Left at dead low the same way no less than 7' using Navionics on our I Pad to find deepest water. At first had somewhat brisk winds but same way as channel so no issues. Then wind went to nothing as the tide changed so had peaceful quite night. Three boats anchored for this night. Previous reviews seem accurate if different windy conditions as it is wide open anchorage.

April 9 2024 Nice wide area good for many boats. Short distance off ICW for fast in and out. Good holding . Some crab pots but not too bad. Four boats here this time. Good place to stage going through Hell Gate. Some bugs but you are in Marsh land. ATT Verizon cell coverage OK. Good TV signals from Savannah. I have anchored further up this creek on several occasions.

April 8 2024 anchored with three boats here overnight. Mild winds and a sunny day made this a pleasant anchorage again. Plenty of swing room so no stress anchorage. Good holding and anchor came up clean. Nice peaceful night and good nights sleep. Cell coverage on ATT and Verizon were decent. TV stations from Savannah were good signals 3 31 2021 anchored here for the night. Strong current but holding was good even with 30 MPH winds. Would have explored more with the dingy but winds, rain and cold weather discouraged us this time. Will return again to explore sometime.

April 7 2024 Four boats anchored for the night here this time. Good holding and wide enough for good amount of swing room. Moderate current for Georgia. Some wakes but not many especially considering this was a nice sunny Sunday. ATT Verizon coverage OK but weak. Good off air TV signals into our antenna. Observed anchored boat taking dog in dingy to ferry dock. Some bugs when we first anchored but not so bad after awhile. Previous reviews helpful and accurate

April 6 2024 Nice anchorage off marshland. Easy in and out nice scenic area very relaxing to stay here. Some crab pots but spaced out so not really an issue. As we came in from the north we spotted two horses on the shore. Winds were predicted to be like 7-8 when we arrived but we measured over 30 for a couple of hours so it was a bit of rolling with that until the winds diminished. The winds were light rest of the night so good nights sleep. Excellent holding.

4 2 2024 Pump out seems to be functioning on this visit. Shallow when the tide is low and current can be interesting here. Been visiting here many times since 2015 and have found the pump out has been not been in working order many times. The docks here are basically for the fishing boats from the launch ramp so it can be shallow at low tide. The furthest south Dock usually has water deep enough for a trawler to dock for a few hours without permit. This is not the Sister's Creek Free dock which is just a tad north of these docks. Overnight is not encouraged here as it is by the free dock. You are subject to getting some wakes here by the boats that do not understand what no wake zone means.

April 2 2024 pulled in to wait out pending severe storms the next two days. Nice to be tied to a secure dock with little fetch for waves to hit us. Also there are trash containers allowing us to get rid or our trash. The previous reviews describe this free dock. We been here many times since 2015 and the current can really rip so we like to dock during slack and facing out back to the ICW so we are looking forward when leaving. It gets shallow by the marshland at low tide so do not swing out too far from the docks when turning around. Thank you Jacksonville!

February 2, 2024 pulled in here and anchored for the night. Saw as low as 5.7' coming in. Anchored in 9' of water in very light winds but not sure of holding seems like muddy loose bottom. There are many docks here which were empty on north side with no trespassing signs. Need to stay to North side coming in channel as it is shallow by docks on South side of channel. Sheriff boat was in slip on south dock and only one other boat. Not much swing room. It was a Saturday morning so did not see any activity when we left at 9AM

We have been here many times through the years. Here are some of our visits comments. 1 29 2024 had a slip for one night. We were on floating docks in front of Yacht club which could use some work. Easy to access and staff was pleasant and helpful. Facilities old but clean.1 20 2020 used mooring for overnight stay. Before they let us use mooring they required us to do a pump out. Had to share a mooring this time. It was somewhat difficult since no one was on the boat already on the mooring, it was windy, and it had no really easy to attach cleats available. 2 9 2018 This time had to share mooring with nice people on boat so no issues tying up. Walked to town by beach for nice breakfast and returned for dinner, plenty of choices here. Took bus to Publix, shopping mall, and lunch. Was able to ship recalled fire extinguishers back to Kidde using FEDEX to pick them up from the office here. Did a good amount of exploring with the dingy. Lots of friendly boaters here. 1 24 2017 another visit this time on mooring ball our self two days. Rented car from Enterprise for trip to Orlando a day. Unfortunately Wifi on mooring did not work well. 1 3 2016 Stayed again 12 29 2015. We stayed in a slip. Pump out worked well Decent facilities, good docking help from staff, walked to beach, and took free bus to main part of town. Nice town to visit.

1 29/2024 We called here to see if they would have room for us 8 days in advance. Said to book now if we wanted to have slip. Went on Dockwa to book slip and the marina did not confirm for a couple of days. We finally got confirmation and were told we would be in Slip 11. We called to confirm about a half hour before our arrival and it was still a go. When we arrived a boat was already in slip 11 so we called and were advised to go into slip 8,or 9 but they were already occupied. We found slip 14 was the only open slip and another boater helped us dock as no one is here from the marina. He told us he was assigned slip 11 the day before and had to go into slip 9 instead so the marina staff does not know what is going on. The place is under construction so it will probably be nice someday but it is only OK at this point in time. Several aids to navigation are missing and the others are in poor shape. It gets shallow if your out of the channel so we were happy we have Navionics crowd sourced navigation as just an ordinary chart would be risky to transit with here. The wifi is very good speed and the on site restaurant is good food but closed on Mondays. Laundry works well. There is a on site small grocery store by the marina. Shower and heads were only OK but functional.

Jan 15 2024 went Westbound. Jan 29 went eastbound. Westbound called multiple times to request lock-age. No Reply. Finally when near lock answered and only said to wait at arrival point. Asked for information concerning lock but no reply to our questions on lines, when to leave arrival point, or were we informed that five boats were coming out of the lock eastbound. Absolutely no communications from the lock master through the lock-age. Jan 29 we were at the COE slips right next to the lock at 7:30 am requested lock-age Eastbound and asked when we should cast off and enter the lock since there was no traffic awaiting either direction. They responded to come right now so we cast off and found the lock closed as it needed to be filled and we held station for half hour while they filled the lock with us wasting fuel. No further communications through the entire lock-age after the come right now. We finally get into the lock and then they keep opening and closing the gate behind us seemly having trouble closing the gate. We finally get the lock down and the east gate open but no horn, signal, or communication we were authorized to leave lock like all the other lock masters do. So took hour and half to do the lock-age. We have done hundreds of lock-ages and had many wonderful helpful lock masters a replacement here would be in order.

1 15 2024 here again for a 11 day stay until 1 27 2024. Been returning here for many years since 2014. Boat size limit around 40'. We have car with us this time so we can explore area easier. Sure enjoy having senior pass discount. Great value. Slips are 50A service included. No laundry here so need car to get around. Years before we have used UBER to get downtown. Short piers 20' finger fixed but good enough. Facilities clean and nice only downside only one shower for everyone to use. Good value for slips and quiet setting. Other boaters and campers were willing to help you dock. This park is well kept and they even have firewood if you want to have a campfire.

1 15 2024 AKA "South of Nuke". Anchored here using Navionics on my I pad to find best water in. Pretty much came in straight East from R210. Lowest was 6' on way in rest 7-8'. Very good holding in sandy bottom. A couple of crab pots in area. WX was forecast for winds around 11 ish out of NE then E then SE for the night. Let out 7 to 1 scope and held fast first try. Around 9 pm wind started clocking out from NE to 33 mph plus then shifted out of E then SE. Varying down to 20ish and back up into thirties for about an hour. Diminished slowly after that . Rocna Anchor held fast no problem. Since we were close to shore waves were not uncomfortable. But not what was forecast. Winds from S, W, N would have a lot of fetch so only in low winds from those directions would we anchor here

Oct 31 2023 Weather forecast was for strong NE winds and small craft warnings so we wanted a safe place to moor to sit out the storm. We stayed two days. Not having to deal with current once inside was a plus. Also buildings and trees damped the wind. No current in the marina, but there is a shoal to the left going in from the harbor. The California Dreaming dock there can dry at low tide. Facilities were decent but no laundry. Staff was very helpful and friendly. They have a pump out boat which was also a plus. We took an Uber into town and enjoyed our stay in Charleston.

Laundry has one washer and one dryer. You obtain key from city hall when you register which lets you use shower and laundry. City staff friendly and helpful. Walked to Mermaids for nice lunch. Also went to public beach on the Atlantic just across the street. Pleasant stop but must plan/book ahead. Most boats will not wake you here and Provision company is just across the water from this dock.

This is our normal stop to get groceries as we migrate North and South yearly. We do not stay overnight here. Four star for convenience of the stop. Make sure to only pull in at the bulkhead only as a short way in channel are rocks near the shoreline. Bulkhead is about 70' with cleats to tie to.

Dock is fixed only about 17 feet long. Two trash barrels on land. Some of the other reviews with the fence are not for this dock. That dock is just further up if your Northbound. August 6 2022 anchored here on weekend. Lots of traffic during the day but only a few anchored through the night. We had constant 20-25 MPH winds but anchor held without dragging. We anchored just inside No Wake Barrel a little further in. This area seems to be less crowded then the first location as you come into the area. The channel is narrow coming which can be uncomfortable when someone is coming at you. Also at the mouth be careful when the current is running as it will push you and you need to power in and out to maintain control.

Picnic area has grills and tables as well as a tent. Fathoms restaurant across the street had good, varied menu and staff were very good. Whale museum interesting and well worth visiting. Walked mile across bridge to town. Launch service will take you downtown to Pier 3 which is downtown $3 per person if you do not want to walk the bridge. Several restaurants short walk when your downtown. We traveled here with another boat. Many of the docks here have new GFI pedestals as now required for safety. If your boat has any ground faults it will trip the breaker and you will not have power. This is for the safety of everyone. If you trip the GFI it is a fault on your boat. The marina power is not the issue. The boat traveling with us has a ground fault, so it tripped the breakers. The pedestals have a 20A outlet you can plug into to run your refrigerator and such with an extension cord if your boat has a fault which the boat traveling with us did to have some power. Many boats with inverters that switch automatically will trip the breakers because the unit was not installed professionally and properly. Once again, the electrical power here is wired safely and is fine it meets the new Underwriters labs standards and the new electrical codes as required by law.
The Floating docks are showing their age here though.

July 20, 2022 stayed on mooring two days. Decent Washrooms, showers, laundry at the dingy dock. Moorings $75 per night. Short walk to fairly well stocked grocery store makes it good provisioning stop. Visited museums close by and found it very interesting as this town was very important for our founding fathers and the battles for our independence.

Very nice public park has very nice garden and the washrooms that are clean. Interesting Strawberry history museum across the street from park. Nice Town short walk to restaurants and stores. July 16 2022 We were able to get a mooring. The boat traveling with us a tied up to Motif #1, the iconic red fishing shack. The harbormasters were great, gave them fender boards to use and actually did the lines for them. At low tide, they had to climb a 10' ladder. All for $1.00 per foot + $10 for 30A power. We were tied up to a float $1.00 per foot. We stayed a second night and the boat traveling with us came on the float with us and we were able to put chairs on the float and visit together. The Sandy YC runs a launch service and took us up and back to the shore/float. No charge but we always tipped them. The town was wonderful, very crowded on weekends, with lots to do and a lot of restaurants which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Facilities were clean with nice showers, Pool area with plenty of chairs /tables, Grills, and nice views of city lights. Boat US discounted rate for first two days. Floating docks were needed as the tide swing was 13'. Restaurants near by. Pump out available by PO boat but you need to book in advance at least a day or more before you depart. Whole Foods, Ace Hardware, CVS, post office, we used all in moderate walking distance. The marina even gives you a discount card for restaurants and a complementary breakfast card for nearby bakery.

Washrooms, laundry clean new building but access only during harbor hours of operation and no trash bins in them. Only one washer dryer. Dock-master was friendly and came out to show us our mooring. Lots of restaurants to chose from. Historic interesting town to visit. Dingy docks are seemly always full so have to tie off from others.

July 7 2022 Anchored here in 18' with our Rocna. No issues with holding. Stayed the night some wakes from boats going inside. Unfortunately in the morning just before 6 am a work boat came out and rocked everyone with no regard to anchored boats. I believe same boat came back a couple of hours later and repeated performance. You need a penetrating anchor (Rocna, Danforths don't work in grass). Once set, the holding was good in mud.

Outside the Red side of channel between G31 and G33 there is room for four or five boats to anchor here. If you go to the WG marker it gets skinny there. I believe there is a 7 day limit on the anchorage. You can have shore access by taking your dingy upriver to the dingy dock on the Red side of the river about 1000' before the highway bridge just behind the fire boat. Public washrooms are there in the park.

Past G53 you can anchor here as there is only small boat traffic to a launch ramp. You have to watch the chart depth here as it gets skinny. There are some obstructions on the chart so you need to be prudent. Room for four or more boats. There is a public dingy dock off Holmes street Between R38 and G37 on the Red side of channel.

At the Marina fixed docks with water and power in decent condition. No cleats so have to tie to pilings. Pros.... do not have to go through RR bridge or once an hour bridge downtown. Very good ships store well stocked for parts especially. Staff helpful. Very nice swimming pool. Gas grills and nice area with tables/umbrellas. Cons it is an island so it is fairly far by land to downtown Mystic.

June 21,2022. We stayed three days and took dingy to access town. Lots to see and do here. We took long walk to West Marine. We took Uber and Lyft back to carry purchased items back to dingy. The main mooring field is EXPOSED to wind, wake, wave, current, and city noise and light. We went and used a mooring up the Spa Creek The mooring field immediately after the bridge is for boats up 35'. Bridge clearance is around 15' so needed an opening. May 17 2022 Easy to access. You can visit the marina and go to the on site restaurant. Since you can visit the marina you have shore access. Good swing room but some crab pots spaced out. You can anchor here for the night and then it is only a short run to visit Yorktown landing during the day. Since the marina is right here you usually do not have any wakes as people slow down for it. Decent cell phone reception. Good place to just chill out and relax. Good holding with our Rocna.

Ebb can be strong so caution is needed. Beaches right here to enjoy. The previous reviews are correct. On many Thursdays in the summer they have bands playing on the river walk, which makes it special to visit on those nights. They play from 6:30 to 9:30. It is nice to be there for the event. If you arrive for 5:30 ish you can stay for $5 to enjoy the event. The washroom showers are ok but not overly clean and are a decent walk from the slips. They usually have a blues band on around first Saturday in May. Farmers market on Saturday morning in season. Slack tide will definitely make docking safer and easier.

Facilities are nice but the ferries are noisy and kick up some wakes in maneuvering. 3 31 2022 Jekyll harbor marina review.
We were transiting north, and the weather forecast for strong SE winds and small craft warnings prompted us to think about staying a night or two waiting for the winds to diminish. We called in the morning and made a reservation to stay one or possibly two nights. Others had the same idea, so we probably got whatever was left for dock space. We are 39 'and they got us into a spot on the dock between two boats with maybe 49' between them. With the current and wind, it was tight squeeze but the two dock hands did an excellent job of taking our lines and securing them to the dock. The Face dock can get a little bouncy with westerly winds. We have been here before by car and there's lots to see including the historic and business districts. Interesting to learn about the history on this island. The WIFI worked well so we downloaded and updated our Navionics & Aqua Map charts in short order. Convenient on-site restaurant specializes in seafood. The marina is located right on the ICW so boats on the face dock sometimes get wakes form skippers not going slow enough for the no wake zone. Washrooms and private showers were clean.

New pedestals are on new floating docks, No problems on our Mainship 390 and another 390 with the electric, hooray! Some boats have problems with the new pedestals if grounds are connected to neutrals, especially if you have inverter on board. Newer facilities have been constructed and great staff to make another wonderful experience. Nice protected marina if the winds kick up. No current to deal with once in the marina. . Took our bike south the one day and went exploring the Sea to River preserve great scenery! Great Ocean views just across the street. Visited beautiful state park about two miles south with trails. Had great BBQ lunch at Bing's landing 3 miles south. Also went north 2 miles to the National Park and visited the fort Took Eco-tour kayak trip and in afternoon went across the street and visited Marineland all very interesting and educational. 1 24 2022 Transient now $2' daily and $12' weekly. Nice town to visit and helpful friendly staff. Facilities older but are kept clean. Restaurants and shops short walk. If you have a bike you can take it to the nice beach area of town. Always enjoyed our stay here through the years. Sometimes see dolphins frolicking in the entrance to the marina.

We like this town very much with the shops, restaurants, and interesting history. The mooring balls are still $25 per night. The fuel dock is finally operational after being out of commission for years. If they put you inside it is shallow at low tide especially at the entrance. The facilities are OK but could use some improvement. The rate of $2.5' for the existing marina facilities is disappointing for what you get and how far your have to walk but the town is well worth visiting. If your put on the outside of the dock wakes and winds are sometimes a concern. At this time due to some construction the dingy dock is not available so they put you up on another dock.

Very nice facilities with hot tub, pool, clean showers and beautiful boaters lounge. Friendly atmosphere is the normal here. This is a hurricane hole. Only concern could be if you're deep draft boat, otherwise it is near perfect.

November 9 2021 easy good anchorage. Have anchored here on several occasions. We like it here with only moderate current, moderate depth, and usually not many wakes. Neat to see big ships transiting the river especially at night. Room for many boats. It's location is good for overnight before even transitioning the river or going back on the ICW. Lots of swing room and holding has been good all the times we have stayed here.

Washroom is just a very short walk. This would work to take a dog also for a walk. Dock is solid floating and depth at dock is good for sailors also. They do not want you here for more than two hours and we actually had visit from municipal employee to make sure we did not linger. Nice to stretch legs after day of cruising here. People fish from dock so need to be respectful of them fishing. Have has pleasant conversations with them when visiting here.

November 3 2021 went up river through no wake zone and anchored between end of zone and bend. This kept us more than 150' from any docks with swing on the anchor. Winds were NE around 10. Good holding on first try no issues with current switches. Strong cell and tv signals. Waking was not a big issue but some wakes from inconsiderable boaters. We were in between two other anchored boats one in no wake area the other just around the bend maybe 1250 feet. Had restful night and left in the morning.

Access to downtown is a reasonable walk and Harris Teeter is a couple of blocks for reprovisioning. WiFi worked well enough to update our charts. Staff helpful. Fort Sumter visitor center a short distance if you want to tour it. Light winds made our stay not too much rolling but if winds are up from SE ,or E, or NE rolling would make this uncomfortable. Some wakes do roll you here but not really an issue this time. Free laundry a plus. Only one shower for everyone.

October 30,2021 anchored here with mild winds. Anchor set first try. Two boats spent the night here this time. Also anchored here in late March 2019. Good TV reception, cell phones also. Only one mild wake while here. You could dingy to the state park as suggested easily. I have anchored by the state park a few times and like that spot better usually as it is wider with more swing room. But sometimes people party by the state park especially on weekends and wake you on their way in and out.

So it would be prudent to have better than low tide to transit here. They have a pump out but it is $20. Fuel prices used to be high here but lately they have had low prices in comparison to the others on the ICW. The park is with nice paths and a campground. I bike to the Food Lion to re-provision.
