Double Breasted - Sand Cay

Description:
Located in a narrow pool of deep water between iron shore to the south and the drying beaches of Sand Cay to the north, it is one of the few anchorages in the Bahamas where setting twin anchors is recommended because there is barely enough swinging room to accommodate the required scope.
The current flows into the anchorage on a rising tide and at max flood it can approach 2 kts. Swimmers should assess the current carefully before deciding to swim to the beach as it can be deceptively challenging to swim the short distance to shore.
If you are ready to meet the challenges of this spectacular anchorage, you will be rewarded with excellent holding in crystal clear water that is a nursery for sharks, barracuda and a variety of snappers and parrot fishes. It is truly a special place for those confident in their boat handling and anchoring skills.

Tidal current is quite swift. When entering be careful not to be swept onto sand bars when current is abeam. Best to enter at slack water. Definitely use two anchors (Bahamian moor). Bottom is sand and holding is good. Not much room, 4 anchored boats max. Very scenic and snorkeling is excellent. Can shop at Grand Cay to the west by dinghy if wind is not blowing too much. No facilities or supplies at all on Double Breasted. Gave high mark to wind protection because land geometry good at calming wind-driven waves, not the wind. Islands are low with scant vegetation. Access is thru the north Double Brested anchorage. Can contact Rosie's on Grand Cay by vhf.
