Stayed here for roughly 1 month.
Great wind protection (a little exposed for North winds) but survived some horrible storms.
Many boats (including us dragged) so be mindful and keep an eye on your anchor.
Dinghy dock was being rebuilt, but can tie your dinghy up just after the Hall of Fame Marina on the east side to street posts. This gives you access to the main beach front. This area is for beach and restaurants.
If you wnat provisions your best bet is the Raw Bar :) they allow you to dinghy up. It's $10 BUT free if you eat/drink there. Which we recommend (especially the French toast!)
Also heading that way you will find a free pump out /water station.
The drive downtown FL is also super close by and a cool experience ON YOUR DINGHY!.
If you pass the food boat also worth a stop :)

ps: make sure you have your anchor light on and don't hang laundry off your boat! police and bylaw are active.

We stayed for well over a month due to a motor issue. Holding is very good in heavy mud. Dinghy dock at Coconuts (free), good bar access to waterfront. Also, at South Port Raw Bar ($10, will take off with order at bar) with access to Winn Dixie, Ross has a Amazon locker, or light walk to huge shopping center with Publix, Ace hardware, Wine and more. Laundry mat and UPS behind Winn Dixie. Relatively calm lake surround by huge homes. Red bouys don't really mean and can be mored ;) Current and wind makes weird swings make sure you are clear of all near boats. Busy on weekends with day trippers, quiet at night.

This was our first place to anchor while living on Spero. Not too crowded and decent access to everything we have needed. As another review stated there is a dinghy dock at raw port Southtown bar. $10 for the day unless you eat a meal there.

We stayed here five nights, it has good holding and has reasonable access via dingy to most stores including UPS behind Winn Dixie. Many beautiful homes, some not so much, but a nice safe area. We did have to move twice as the wind kept changing and putting uncomfortably close to homes, there were 25 boats anchored at the time. Easy access to exit out to Atlantic. Southport Raw Bar has a decent breakfast after which we did all our shopping and shore chores. Would return.

Agree with previous reviews, but would like to add that the Southport raw bar has excellent food and drinks and the prices are really good. It cost 10$ to dock your dingy there, but they credit it on your bill if you eat or drink there in the same day. There's a Winn-Dixie just across the street from raw bar and we've been told by a local that there's a laudry mat behind Winn-Dixie. There's also a Publix, Ace hardware and losts of restaurants in a shopping mall close by. P. S. There's and Amazon hub in that mall. Only downside right now is that there's construction noise during day time because there's 3 new houses being build.

Great anchorage. Safe, quiet. V. near Las Olas area. Could stay for weeks. Only downside is shore access which is workable. Will stay again.

Tight anchorage but we were able to squeeze in. Three other boats from Colorado were anchored there too. We had to go under the bridge and over to Cox Landing boat ramp to walk the dog.

We anchored here around the perimeter early December 2021 with 15-20 other boats. We are 45' Catamaran. We stayed over a week and swung into the channel at times, no one bothered us. Holding was strong. Used the Southport Raw Bar dingy dock for provisioning and meals many times, restaurant was dog friendly. Used the town dock for water replenishment and garbage disposal. Gas, ice and meals at 15th street Fisheries. Great views, food & drink, also dog friendly. Other day boaters filled the anchorage over weekend

We anchored here on 3/2/21. It was tight with 20 other boats in the anchorage. We were in 8 to 10 feet with only 50 feet of rode out. There are red buoy markers to delineate the boundaries of the anchorage. I'm not sure that gets policed well since at first we were outside the lines, but the wind changed. Good holding in mud. Dinghy out under the low bridge of the canal at the SW corner of Lake Sylvia. We stopped at Cox Landing public ramp to dump garbage and then enjoyed dinner at the Raw Bar at the west end of the canal (across ICW). Friendly staff at Lauderdale Marina where we purchased ice.

Calm most of the time. Long dinghy ride will bring you to New River with free dinghy docks.

Ed Note: New River Downtown Docks.
