This is a small anchorage. There is only room for about 6 boats if the channel is to remain clear and even that is tight. Keep in mind that the shrimp boats will leave and arrive at all hours so do not block their ability to get to their docks. If you can get behind the breakwater this is pretty protected from all directions but if you are closer to the bridge it will be exposed from SE to SW. If your air draft allows the anchorage on the other side of the bridge is better protected. There is some small boat wake.

There are two nice dinghy docks, one close to the anchorage and the other is down by the free docks. The Bean is great for a hot coffee in the morning, and we had a great meal at Barcos Food Company on the waterfront. Inland Waterway Provisions is a great small marine store and gift shop. They have a small consignment section toward the back that can have some nice finds. We had a couple of delicious beers at the New Village Brewery.

The Piggly Wiggly here is small but they have packed a lot in with a wide selection! it is about a mile walk but they provide a shuttle that can drive you back. Inland Waterway Provisions also offers free bikes, many of which have baskets for a grocery run.

    Overall a very cruiser-friendly town!

Tried to anchor but there was several already there who looked to be long term. Not much room for many boats at all. Luckily we were able to get a spot on one of the free docks.

This is our home port. Great small town of less than 1000 people. Small anchorage and a few transient marinas make up the waterfront. There is a large free dinghy dock with access to trash and recycling. There are 2 Restaurants (M&M's and Toucan Grill) and a Coffee Shop on the waterfront as well as a few more within 15 minutes walk. Free pickup service from the Piggly Wiggly grocery store is available for supplies. For most things boat and gift related, visit Pat at the Provision Company.
They even have local and organic food. There is also a West Marine and The Village Hardware Store also within walking distance. Add a brewey, art gallery, boutique womans clothing store and downtown is a wonderful place. Finally, there are 2 large boatyards on Whittaker Creek for haulouts and repairs. Dogs run free and people wave and say hello.

The town has a couple free 24 hour docks and that’s what we did. We docked on the port side dock in front of THE BEAN coffee house. 21’ beam drawing 4 feet and we fit in. Shrimp boats were only about 30 feet off our stern. The anchorage itself is small and their are several vessels (late June 2020) that seemed to be there for awhile leaving little room to drop the hook. As for the town, it’s small but super enjoyable with some of the nicest people we’ve met. Stop at The Bean for $2 ice cream cones (top brand ice cream) in the afternoon and Excellent coffee and homemade scones in the morning. Fully stocked hardware store was walking distance and a Great Marine provision/gift store/gourmet shop is less than 100 steps to your left. Nice walkable town. Open WiFi from marina/restaurant. Good Verizon. No Google Fi. Was told by locals no AT&T either. It’s a Verizon only town. Highly recommend for a stop.
