WOWWW! What a fantastic, serene and beautiful anchorage! We followed Jim Young's comments to enter and we managed no problem. We then anchored near the waypoint mentioned in Skipper Bob (N32•56.612' and W088•10.435') in 23ft. Highly recommend it!

Go past entrance enter going upstream. Stay near south shore as you round bend into cutoff. Anchored in 20 feet, easy to anchor, good hold. We had west wind which wasn't protected but it calmed down over night. If you go too far in water goes to 30 feet, we stayed near entrance. Solid anchorage suggested by Columbus marina!

Enter chute at by turning towards RDB at least 200 yards beyond the tail of the island to avoid the major bar extending downriver. Go up mid-chute with 40 feet of water at the bottom of the island, shoaling to 21 feet at the anchorage icon at the first bend. Anchor mid channel with a sufficient current to help you stay oriented in with the flow in light winds. Good protection from wind, waves, and wakes with good holding in mud. No easy shore access. Cellular reception is just adequate with 2 bars for ATT and Verizon and only one for T-Mobile.

Quiet spot with good holding and private setting. Didn't need a second anchor-- current held us in place. Finding a spot for taking the dog ashore a bit tricky-- muddy on the island but possible. Even though it was Memorial Day weekend, skiers and jet skis were mostly considerate about wakes.

Entered with 30ft of water, went in quite a ways to get 19ft of water. Current kept us straight. Good call service very peaceful location.

After finding out from the lock master that the Tombigbee oxbow wasn't an option for last night we decided to stop at Cooks Bend. Friends had told us Sumter was smaller and we had 8 boats. We also knew there was a shallow bar at Sumter. Lower Cooks Bend had 30 ft. We anchored in 24 ft with a light current. No spinning. Very calm night. Beautiful setting. Anchor came up clean.
