Rock Sound Harbour (West)

Description:
The western shore of Rock Sound Harbour is unpopulated and remote with only the narrowest bits of beach to where it is possible to land a dinghy if needed. Going beyond the beach, however, will require some agility as the rocks and thorn bushes are not the most welcoming. The shore nevertheless provides excellent protection from strong west winds and some consideration should be given to moving in the event a strong west wind is forecast. It is possible to anchor anywhere between the Duecy Rocks and a grouping of three smaller rocks about 1.5 nm to the north. Protection improves the farther north you lay but the water is shallower.

This is a great spot for westerlies. There is a nice beach for cruiser happy hours or to walk yourself and your dog during the blows. Depths are generally deeper than charted on Explorer charts. Work your way carefully towards the shore or stay out a bit. The choice is yours.

We had over 30 boats here during Feb 2024 westerlies with plenty of room for 100+ more. Great holding and always room make this a good place on Eleuthera to run for strong West winds.

Great anchorage. Lots of boats but lots of space. Very protected area.

The west side of the sound has spotty holding with some patches of rock. Good wind protection from westerlies. There are several beaches to explore and the water is clearer than near town.
