The Corps Of Engineers and contractors are working extensive hours. All needed equipment has arrived at the site. The lock is being cleared of debris with a 200 Ton chunk of concrete removed from inside the lock yesterday. Hats off to these folks.

    Update: Demopolis Lock
The current estimate for repairs to be completed is 30 to 60 days. Equipment is expected soon to install the concrete logs on the upstream side so the lock level can be lowered. Once that happens a new estimate to complete repairs will be issued.

The restaurant is closed permanently. Fuel (both gas and diesel) is usually available but you may have to walk up the hill and find someone to open for you. The dock is showing its age. There are limited shore power connections so you may have to share.

We've docked at Turtle Cove several times. The staff is great. The dock hands and office folks are always helpful and knowledgeable. The marina is very protected. The Anclote River is twisty but very well marked. At red 50 the entrance to Turtle Cove begins with a right turn just past 50. Follow the narrow channel favoring the left side. About 100 yards further you make a sharp left at the marina sign and follow the narrower channel. Stay between the private floating reds and greens. After about 100 yards it opens up into the marina area. It sounds trickier than it is. 6+feet of depth all the way except for one tiny spot on the west side of the dry-stack island. Boats up to 5' will clear this spot at any depth above mid-tide.
Turtle Cove has floating docks with 30-50 amp power, water and pump out at every slip.
Also, the Clubhouse (a really nice bar) , has laundry and showers in the building. Attached is a very private tropical setting pool area with hot tub. The tiki bar is at the docks and has a nearby fenced playground. Turtle Cove is a couple of blocks from the Sponge Docks (the local shopping, restaurant, bar area of town). Bus transport is convenient. Big box store shopping is less than 2 miles away. A cab ride is about $7 each way. Turtle Cove is transient super-friendly. $2 a foot but ask about their weekly discount...and their monthly discount (Best bargain in boating). We love the place and stop here spring and fall for at least a month.
