This is one of the few non marina locations where you can anchor and go ashore on the north coast. The Guarda want you to clear in at the marina (you can go by dinghy if you wish as the channel in is unmarked, or use the waypoints I provided in Cuba Bound, max draft 5.5 feet and only if there is no swell) after which you are free to dinghy, explore the smaller cays, snorkel or hang out on the large and generally vacant beach on the north side of the western tip. This beach is a favourite of local Cubans, as it's not frequented by tourists from the nearby resorts.
This anchorage is often visited by local fishermen, with whom you can trade for lobster or fresh fish. Be advised however, there are large sharks in the area - I've seen the fishermen bring up a 9 foot hammerhead in their nets here - so snorkel with care.

Donna, so sorry the Sail to the Sun ICW Rally couldn't visit you this year - the group was quite disappointed. But, we'll be back for sure next year, promise.

Shoaling (2-3 feet) is at 1:21, just a bit north of it? Coming south from marker 122 you want to start heading to the west toward docs as you approach 121 stay about 25 feet off the dock, get past 121 before proceeding back to centerline

I went through this area last week with five feet draft, at low tide, touched once. This caution is incorrect, the person reporting must have been out of the channel.
