SC: Fields Cut, shoaling at Atlantic Intracoastal MM 575

  • Date Reported: Oct 26, 2019
  • Reporter: Bob423
  • Source: User
  • Description:

Dredging is about to start at the northern entrance as of 10/25/2019. Directions are still good.

    Going south,
    - Pass G47 by 20 ft and aim to split the shore and R48A (not on most charts, it's at the extreme southeast corner of entrance) for 9.4 MLLW minimum
    - Continue beyond R48A on the same line for 200 ft, then move over to center of channel
    - Favor the outside of all turns
    - At the southern exit, stay 200 ft off red side shore, the range tower and R50 for 15 to 32 MLW.

    Going north:
    - Pass 200 ft off R50, the range tower and the shore on the red side. It's shoal on the green side
    - Favor the outside of all turns, especially before starting the turn to R48A (see dotted line swing wide)
    - Starting 200 ft before R48A, move over to the green side and split R48A and the green side shore, for 20 MLW
    - After passing R48A, aim to pass G47 by 10 ft, 9.4 MLW along the way.

The chart below is from Aqua Map and shows my track of 4/25/2019 as a blue, dotted line.
A GPX route is available at BFieldsCut

Theres been no change in the last five years.

  • Lat / Lon: N 32° 05.352' / W 080° 55.919'
