Eastport Yacht Club officials hoped the Boomerang Race would become a Chesapeake Bay tradition when they established the event in 2016.
It has not taken long for precisely that to happen as the Boomerang Race has already developed into one of the more popular dates on the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Racing Association calendar. This year’s fourth annual edition attracted 67 boats in 12 classes for a typically lovely evening start on the Severn River.
Annapolis resident Jim Connelly has entered his J/111 Slush Fund in every Boomerang Race held to date and it is now a staple of his racing season.
“We have come to really enjoy this race and it is one of our favorites because it’s something unique and different,” Connelly said. “It’s not often that you get a chance to race at night and the course is usually rather challenging.”
