Construction is set to begin on the state-of-the-art North Abaco Port project in Cooper’s Town, Little Abaco Island, a partnership between the governments of The Bahamas and the People’s Republic of China, according to reports.

The new port would help facilitate international trade for the Abacos, including Green Turtle Cay and the out-islands. The 45.4-acre port project is expected to be completed in late 2015.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Friday, June 20 to officially mark the occasion. The $39 million port is being constructed by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) and facilitated by the Ministry of Works and Urban Development.
