Groovin’ in the Park, Deltaville Maritime Museum & Holly Point Nature Park’s waterfront casual, outdoor, concert series continues  Saturday, July 26th with a  “Special Performance” presentation featuring big band   “Good Shot Judy” with openers, the acoustic duo,   “Stonesthrow”. “Stonesthrow “ begins at 5 pm, “GSJ” onstage at 6.  We have gotten confirmation from both groups. This concert is partially sponsored by Hawkins Boat Brokerage in Deltaville. Gates open at 4 pm.

With the Phase III restrictions gone, gone, gone, we will only ask those to mask who either have not Covid vaccinated or have fever or flu symptoms. Be considerate of others. It is possible we will still limit cash handling, using a cashier for gate tickets and our online purchase entry and advance purchase system is still operational. Separate tickets for food and drink tickets may also be still sold at this event for the same reason. We will return to our 2019 all-cash system if the Covid continues to abate.

The Museum Board and our staff will always act in a manner considered best for the safety and health of our members and friends.

This show requires a “Special Performance” ticket and is the last “Special Performance” of the year. This is an outside, rain or shine event.

From “Good Shot Judy’s website: “Good Shot Judy” is Virginia’s premier “Big” band specializing in delivering top-notch Classic Vocals and recreating the classic nightclub entertainment feel of Las Vegas in its prime. Think Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Count Basie, glitz and glamour. Real entertainment from an era that was not only filled with great singers, performers, and great songs, but whose legacy has become synonymous with great entertainment.” That’s a LOT of greats!

Possessing a large repertoire of classic swingin’ big band hits, “Good Shot Judy”  is also equally adept at delivering classic ballads, and cocktail music. From the swingin’ sounds of Sinatra, Basie, and contemporaries like Michael Buble, and Harry Connick Jr., to the beautiful ballads of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, and back to the high-energy Latin Dance big band sound, Good Shot Judy has got you covered! Let’s swing!

Openers StonesThrow are an acoustic music duo made up of Jeff Green of Hayes, Virginia and Eddie Terrell of Yorktown. Jeff has been in many working bands for the past twenty-five years as a guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Eddie, while not being as active in bands, is an accomplished guitarist, vocalist and pianist in his own right. He has played both guitar and piano for many years. StonesThrow does both tunes from other artists and some originals. Audiences all agree: “ No matter what they are playing they come at it from a new and fresh angle. These guys are great.” Our sound engineer and all-around guru of music, Jan Williams says, “unusual, unpredictable, fun!”

This show could easily be a sellout. Check our website. Tickets may be purchased online or by calling or visiting the Museum office before 4 pm on the day of the show. Nauti-nells will also sell tickets during business hours.

Unless there is a sellout you will be able to get tickets at the door. You may still purchase online using your Smartphone and showing your receipt at the gate.  You will be required to have a ticket, or online receipt to enter. We strongly suggest you bring your own lawn chairs.

Groovin in the Park will be rain or shine, outside only, in the Waterfront Park for the foreseeable future..

Please watch this paper or our website for any changes. We will follow all  Virginia Covid  Regulation changes and weather advisories as they occur.

Next Groovin August 28th with reggae band “Stuck on a Name.” The opener, “Sincerely, Iris." The rest of the season is currently scheduled  with: Saturday, Sept 4th, Toby Gillie and the “Unpredictables” opening at 5 pm for the Josh Walker Quartet with Sharon Rae North at 6 pm.
