Poughkeepsie, NY

Poughkeepsie was the temporary capital of New York in 1777 and is home to Vassar College, one of the so-called “Seven Sisters” colleges (now co-ed). Historic Hyde Park, the birthplace of Franklin D. Roosevelt, is a short drive away. The house is open for tours (800-337-8474). Also located in Hyde Park on the Hudson River is the Culinary Institute of America. Several excellent restaurants are within the Institute and reservations are required well in advance so plan accordingly.
