GRAND HAVEN, MI – More than $9 million in improvements to the north pier in Grand Haven will result in safer conditions for recreational boaters.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is in the design phase of improvements on which construction is planned for 2023 and 2024, according to Liz Wilkinson, resident engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers in Grand Haven.
“We’re just thrilled to be able to make this improvement at this harbor,” Wilkinson told MLive. “We know it supports the entire region.”
The pier structure will be rebuilt so that wave action is reduced, Wilkinson said. It also may be higher out of the water, making its concrete walkway safer for pedestrians, she said.
Grand Haven’s south pier, upon which are two lighthouses and a catwalk, underwent two years of refurbishment by the Army Corps in 2016-18.
