Put-in-Bay (Bass Island), OH
History reveals that the name “Put-in-Bay” originated with Oliver Hazard Perry. In the War of 1812, Commodore Perry’s fleet defeated the British Navy in the Battle of Lake Erie. When asked what to do with the British fleet, he responded, “Put them in the bay.” After the battle he returned here to write his famous dispatch, “We have met the enemy and they are ours.” The Victorian-style village of Put-in-Bay is filled with boutiques of all description, a waterfront park with a playground, dining from gourmet to casual and taverns with live entertainment. After walking the docks and meeting your neighbors, take a stroll along Delaware Avenue, the heartbeat of the village.
