Questions on ICW from Fl to NY

I have a 25 foot houseboat and want to travel the ICW from Palm bay Fl to Onieda lake NY...My boat is not very seaworthy and wondering if the ICW is inland all the way or are there spots where I have to go into the ocean? How long would a trip like this take? etc.

Fred. I believe Ralph is right. We are making the trip from Oriental NC to Georgian Bay Canada via that route. I believe you go out into the ocean at Manasquan,NJ and make a 44 mile trip to the Battery New York. Waterway Guide northern edition covers the route from Cape May to New York pretty well. If you go on the New York canal system web site they cover the Erie Canal system to the Onieda Lake trip. Ron

Hey Fred,I have not made that trip but i have traveled the tenn, tom bigbee and the icw to south Fl, it is my understanding that you will be on the outside, ocean, from some part of New jersey to New york.I have also been trying to find out the mileage of that passage without buying the charts.Ralph 423-595-7600-cell
