Ralph “Sonny” Middleton was born on March 1, 1937 and started in the family business of repairing boats when he was just a teenager. In 1957 after his father passed away, he formed Middleton Marine Engine Service. Today his business has grown to include Dog River Marina, Dog River Fuel and Supply, A & M Yacht Sales and Middleton Marine. Through his dedication to the marina, Dog River Marina was named Marina of the Year in 2000 and became the first marina/boatyard to receive the Clean Marina Designation in Alabama. Today his companies employ 40 employees with an average of 20 years of service. He is recognized through the yachting world for his devotion to his career. Through the years, Sonny has been highly praised by the yachting community for his expertise of yachts and engineering modifications in the marine field.
