Thefts from boats continue in the Middle Keys

Most of these thefts of electronics, outriggers and other gear are happening overnight from unattended boats at docks behind private residences, although a couple were from boats docked at Sunshine Key Marina on Ohio Key. From a KeysNet.com article:

If there is anything frustrating Keys law enforcement more than boat-related thefts, it's been the inability to catch any of the thieves.

"We've had undercover officers out in unmarked vehicles. Our leads so far have been very minor," Sheriff Rick Ramsay said. "These things take some time. We're talking with neighbors and the public on being more vigilant."

"These are professional criminals. They're fearless," Ramsay said. "People are checking their boats often and shouldn't have to live with that kind of concern. If you hear or see something, even if you think it is minor, give us a call..."
